Fans of South Park know that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are at their best when they’re hiding smart social satire under layers of stupid humor. The success of “Book” made me nervous for two reasons: had these guys sold out? And did this play become big because it was trendy and “edgy” only to those who had never seen South Park or cheered for “Team America”?Good news! Worries not necessary! The guys create a hilarious, thought provoking show that questions ALL organized religion but not people’s faith. Two young Mormon missionaries are sent to Africa to bring the villagers into the church. They imagine “Lion King” and get something much more real. Fantastic musical numbers, seamless set changes, gut busting jokes I can’t mention here, and lots of heart , “Mormon” is simply awesome. I can’t recommend it enough.
