How far is too far? That’s the big question in this intense movie that is fueled by a tight script, incredible acting, and a story that keeps you talking hours after it ends. Whiplash doesn’t take a side about talent and what it takes to push that talent to genius…it makes strong arguments for and against with the film’s two main characters (one will win the Oscar. ..the other got robbed of a nomination). A heart pounding drama that sticks with you long after it ends, Whiplash is one of the best movies of the year.
Considering this is a movie about code-breaking during World War 2, The Imitation Game is one of the most suspenseful and exciting movies of the year. Benedict Cumberbatch is outstanding, the story is fascinating and at times heartbreaking, and I was hooked from the very beginning. Although a couple of movies are considered the front runners for Best Picture, I can’t help but feel like they pale in comparison to this one. I’m sorry, but both Boyhood and Birdman were fascinating because of the way they told the story, but this one was much better specifically because of the story. One of, if not the best movie, of the year.
