Two thirds of Concussion is a hard hitting, eye opening explanation of the health risks some football players face and the NFL’s attempt to spin the facts or bury them. It’s the other third that prevents a good movie from being great. While Will Smith’s character is interesting and his relationship with the woman who will eventually become his wife is nice, it also feels out of place and not really necessary. Those scenes take us out of the main story and defuse the tension…much like all those TV timeouts during a really close back and forth game. As I said, keeps a good movie from being great.
